Alpine Strawberries - Growing Seedlings

The winter this year in Boston was not as brutal as the one we had the previous year, but in fear that my alpine strawberries would not return - I started a new batch from scratch.

Busy Building Weekend 3.31.13

New Garden Boxes

It has been a busy weekend in the garden. I spent much time pulling out last years plants, weeds, and other random plants. Today we also built two 8 foot long garden boxes. Phew, it was some hard work!! We will be working on filling the boxes next weekend. This is our attempt to keep the bunnies away from our veges!

The rhubarb plant seems to be coming back in the garden. The strawberry plant is producing leafs again. Also, I was happy to see that one of our climbing rose plants grew a bit.

 Indoors I have a number of plants under lights including Marigolds, Broccoli, Poppy flowers, and onion plants. I planted peas outside on my balcony. Soon it will be time to start the tomato seeds. Also, I have some Begonia tubers that I need to start indoors.

Garden Update 6/27/12

Lots of green tomatos. Some beans. The strawberries are turning red and critters are eating them up before we have a chance to harvest

Bare Root Strawberries

I bought 25 bare root Evie Everbearing Strawberries for $15 on Amazon. What a deal!!  Each one of these would have run $3 in a local nursery. When I got the bunch of plants I soaked the roots in water for a couple days and then planted them in the garden. Only time will tell now. Will they survive and grow? Will they fruit? In the meantime, I noticed that my alpine strawberries from last year already have their first flowers in April!!!
